The main goal is to get across to citizens the idea of safe handling and conscious response to the facts of detecting IRS, - the Project Manager of the project “KROK do Bezpeky” Olena Salnyk said.

“Our project is called “KROK do Bezpeky”. The word “KROK” is a descriptor and stands for “Radiation Awareness and Control Campaign”. And also “krok” means an action. Safety is one of the basic needs of human existence.

In Dnepropetrovsk region, back in 2017, a response plan for detection of radioactive waste was approved, - said Serhiy Ostroukh.

Serhiy Ostroukh, Deputy Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Department of Civil Protection, said that in 2017 the procedure and worked out response mechanisms had been approved in the region, starting from the moment of detection, inspection, transportation and ending with disposal measures that are carried out in case of detection of radioactive sources.

“The information campaign will help to identify some of the historically orphaned IRS and safely dispose of them,” - Viktor Svidersky said about cooperation within the campaign “KROK do Bezpeky”

Viktor Svidersky, Director of the Dnipro Interregional Branch of “Association “Radon”, believes that the information campaign “KROK do Bezpeky”, which has been launched in Dnipropetrovsk region, will positively affect the consciousness of citizens and enhance radiation safety in the region.

10,000 viewers have watched the premiere of film “Dangerous IRSs” on TV Channel 34 in Dnipro city

TV channel 34 in Dnipro city showed the premiere of popular-science film “Dangerous IRSs”, which had been prepared specifically for distribution within the framework of information campaign “KROK do Bezpeky” (STEP to Safety). According to estimates of the broadcaster's analytical service, the film has been watched by about 10,000 viewers.

“Restricted area”, “Danger” or fan marking? Residents of Dnipropetrovsk region were asked how the radiation hazard sign looks like.

The Kiev International Institute of Sociology, commissioned by the Chornobyl Research and Development Institute, has been conducting a sociological survey of the residents of Dnipropetrovsk region regarding the sources of ionizing radiation for two weeks.

Information campaign "KROK do Bezpeky" started in the pilot Dnipropetrovsk region

With the aim to reduce the number of orphaned radioactive sources, minimize terrorist threats, as well as threats to life and health of citizens, with the support of the U.S. Government in Ukraine there was launched a public outreach campaign “KROK do Bezpeky” (STEP to Safety) in frames of the project "Public Outreach and Information Campaign on the Amnesty Program of Orphaned Ionization Radiation Sources."
