Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve.

The objective of the project is to assist Ukraine in creating the system of environmental protection within and around the Chernobyl exclusion zone to conserve valuable natural complexes of Polissya that cannot be used in traditional economic directions, as well as to support natural processes of carbon cycle.

Training of personnel in the field of radioactive waste management

The training was carried out according to the 72-hour program “Radiation Safety of Radioactive Waste Management” for managers and engineering and technical personnel of specialized enterprises.

Obtaining by SSE "Chernobyl NPP" the permission for pilot operation of NSC CS-1

The State Specialized Enterprise “Chornobyl NPP” has obtained from the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine the specific permission for pilot operation of Commissioning Stage 1 of the New Safe Confinement (NSC CS-1). Obtaining the specific permission is a condition of the object “Shelter” (OS) operating license.

Development of the ChNPP site and the territory of the exclusion zone

Since the Chernobyl NPP is located on the territory contaminated with radioactive substances as a result of the accident in 1986, and the ChNPP unit No. 3 has common building structures with the Shelter object, the ultimate goal of the ChNPP decommissioning was a state called the “brown spot”.

Liquid radioactive waste treatment in mobile modular installations

In Ukraine, there is an urgent need for the treatment of liquid radioactive waste in places of their formation, in particular in gas production, which is accompanied by the formation of a significant amount of associated stratal water contaminated with radionuclides of natural origin: radium-226, radium-228, thorium-232.

Information campaign “KROK do Bezpeky” is very important for the region, and we fully support our partners, - said Director of Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of Dnipropetrovsk RSA.

Serhiy Berezan’, Director of Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, said that a serious technogenic burden remained in the region and noted that the information campaign played a significant educational role in informing residents about the rules of handling radioactive waste and radiation sources.
