“Restricted area”, “Danger” or fan marking? Residents of Dnipropetrovsk region were asked how the radiation hazard sign looks like.

The Kiev International Institute of Sociology, commissioned by the Chornobyl Research and Development Institute, has been conducting a sociological survey of the residents of Dnipropetrovsk region regarding the sources of ionizing radiation for two weeks.

In particular, they answered the question whether they know how the radiation hazard sign looks like.

According to the survey, the majority of citizens (71%) know that a shamrock means a radiation hazard. 23% don't know the sign. 3% gave the wrong answer. 3% found it difficult to answer. Those who gave the wrong answer mostly associated the sign with a certain danger, namely: “Restricted area”, “Danger”, “Chemicals”, “Dangerous substance” and even perceived it as a fan marking. The survey was conducted in preparation for the information campaign “KROK do Bezpeky”, which was launched in Dnipropetrovsk region. A total of 504 respondents aged 18 and over were interviewed.
